Ankita Bhat (b. 2003), a Singapore-born emerging designer of Indian descent, creates work that delves into the beauty of navigating cultural diaspora and intergenerational experiences. She draws from motifs and rituals from her maternal history and lineage to invite those who view her work to slow down, ask questions and share a private, peaceful experience with her through her objects.

By investigating the intersection between natural and synthetic through materiality and colour, Ankita works similarly to a scientist. She lets material chemistry shine through self-made stains, solutions and composites. She enjoys having her work communicate with the outdoors, so spends much of her time researching bio-based solutions for the longevity of her objects, without encroaching heavily on the materials’ innate desire to return to the Earth.

Ankita is currently working towards a BFA in Furniture Design (Class of 2026) at the Rhode Island School of Design and loves to cook, garden, and look at bees.
