Roving
steel tubing, raw wool roving, deflected double weave, spun cotton and wool, glass, rust.
18” x 24” x 12” . fall 2024.

Created in collaboration with Mary Alford and Reese Youngblood, Roving is a coffee table inspired by the diverse forms and material possibilities of wool—spun, woven, raw, wet-felted, needle-felted, and wrapped. The table explores how furniture can engage with textile processes, particularly through the interplay of wool and rusting.

Roving evokes an animal-like presence, suggesting a sense of movement and transformation. It can be cared for like a living organism, inviting users to add layers of felting over time, allowing the piece to evolve in response to its environment. Its design is symbiotic, with a metal structure supporting the woven suspension while wet-felting encourages the metal to rust, fostering a dynamic relationship between materials.

The connections between textiles and furniture in Roving are intentionally highlighted, celebrating their contrasts while preserving a sense of mystery. The reciprocity between the two creates moments of magic.
