tiptoe stool

intended to manipulate the human form, this stool incites pain as it is stepped on, forcing the body to pay attention to the feet. the tiny pointed rungs allow for just the toes to gingerly fit on them. the user is made to crouch, holding the apex of the triangle frames for support. in some ways, this object reframes Asian foot reflexology practices, placing the user in a more active role in caring for their feet. the deep purple madder stain, resembling bruising, will fade with time.

made with cherry, finished with homemade madder stain (oxidised), butcher’s block oil and conditioner. 2024.
